Wight & Company has partnered with VS Furniture on several early learning center projects. VS not only brings design expertise for flexible and ergonomic furniture within the education market, but also provides extensive study and research behind each solution for its clients. During the planning processes, Wight & Company and VS hold conversations between educators, architects, and designers, establishing important connections between learning and spaces. As a result, solutions for these special projects are much deeper than simply fun paint colors and tiny furniture. For example, when studying the classrooms for the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, the VS/Wight team explored several themes, including “sensory rich”, where students are provided with a variety of materials and textures fosters discovery and exploration, while abundant natural light heightens awareness and lifts the spirit. Sustainable design elements serve the dual purpose of conserving energy and promoting healthy living habits. The team also considered the theme of “agility” where every inch of available space is used, extending the learning environment beyond formal instructional areas and providing a flexible canvas that can adapt over time. Moveable furnishings that can be reconfigured on a dime play a vital role in establishing a customized learning experience. This deeper level of thought on the part of VS and Wight & Company provides the children who use to the space with opportunities to thrive in diverse, collaborative discovery and become self-directed learners and complex thinkers.
