The award-winning Hidden Oaks Nature Center, completed in 2009, is located on 17 acres of woodlands and nestled near the east branch of the Des Planes River. The center’s “tree house” theme is reinforced by the building’s location between two large deck-enclosed oak trees. Half of the building is conically shaped, mimicking the verticality of these two trees. The LEED Platinum, 7,000-square-foot facility features early education classrooms, a green roof, and numerous sustainable strategies. Surrounded by constructed wetlands and trails, the nature center fits seamlessly into its environment.
