In response to the passage of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Environmental Engineering and Materials Testing services became part of Wight & Company’s resume in 1986. This legislation required that all public and private K-12 schools be inspected for asbestos by a licensed inspector, and that formal management plans be written and filed with the proper authorities – within the next two years. New inspections were to be done every three years for the life of the building. Wight & Company saw this legislation as an opportunity to not only expand its services, but also assist the firm’s large number of K-12 clients with their response to AHERA. Today, the firm’s environmental professionals provide consulting services on a wide range of projects with a goal of economically and proactively managing all building environmental issues.
